English courses
CLA-UniTO launches every year English courses addressed to the university community and the general public. The course offer includes:
- English for general purposes for different levels according CEFR
- Preparation to the major English certifications
- English for specific purposes addressed to PhD students, researchers and lecturers who have to use language in academic and scientific contexts.
All courses are held by English native speakers who have qualified and long experience in English language teaching and English language certifications.
If you are interested in our courses, please read as follows:
- Read through Regolamento dei corsi di lingua and consult Griglia di Autovalutazione QCER
- Take the language test as indicated in the description of each course
- Fill in the online FORM by the end term you will find here
Courses start with at least 6 participants otherwise a mail of cancellation will be sent.
When the enrolment closes, you will receive an e-mail of confirmation or cancellation from corsi.cla@unito.it. If a course starts, you will receive another mail from budget.centri@unito.it where instructions ralated to the payment of the fees are given. Following to the payment due, the administration will issue a proforma invoice and inform you about the code IUV (Unique Code of Payment), a code necessary for payments to the Public Administration through the dedicated channels that will be indicated in the email.
At this point, please pay by the date indicated in th eproforma invoice e send to corsi.cla@unito.it copy of the receit of payment. If you are eligible of a student reduction, please attach the document attesting your current position as a student you can get logging through the University home page site to MYUniTO "Student's profile", section "Career" --> "Certificazione carriera".

- Due to the second wave of Covid-19, all courses starting in the first semester 2020-2'21 will be held through videoconferencing tools, e.g. webex.
*** ENGLISH FOR GENERAL PURPOSES
These course aim to improve your general competence in English, by proposing activities according to the four abilities listed and described in the CEFR, namely listening, reading, speaking and writing.
Teaching and learning activities will follow a programme that can be modified according to detected learners' need.

*** THEMATIC SESSIONS
Two thematic sessions will be offered with the aim to favour the development of specific abilities.
- "English for job purposes" provides a wide range of activities with the aim of giving advice on how to write a CV and a presentation letter effectively and how to maintain confidently and control an interview.
- "The sound of English" is addressed to learners who feel unease or make mistakes when talking in English because of wrong pronounciation and/or intonation. A qualified native speaker will help you improve through listening the sounds of English and how intonation is used in oral communication.

*** ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES (EAP)
The Language Centre lauches courses addressed to doctoral students and researchers who wish to improve their language competences for academic purposes. Courses are designed to provide participants with guidelines for achieving confidence and effective ways in presenting (conferences, workshops, seminars) and writing (essays, chapters, books) scientific works.
For the same purposes, the Language Centre launches course addressed to lecuturers who teach in English degree courses and who need to develop language competences for maintaining a course and managing students in international contexts.
An Open Badge, a kind of digital statement attesting the abilities and language competences achieved at the end of the course, will be realeased. For more information, please visit https://bestr.it/project/show/115?ln=it

*** PREPARATION COURSES FOR CERTIFICATIONS (IELTS, FCE and CAE)
All courses are programmed around the official calendar provided by the UK English language qualification boards.
Please note that, preparation courses DO NOT include the exam. Participants will have to provide themselves the information about the authorised centres (British Council e Cambridge Assessment English) where the exam can be taken.
No courses will start in the first semester 2020-2021.
